Sao Paulo: Sugarcane crushing and sugar production in Brazil’s centre-south region has doubled in the first half of November this year as against the same time during the preceding year, said industry group Unica.
The mills in the region reported crushing of 26.34 million tonnes which was 109.3% up from last year while the sugar output was reported 162.2% up to 1.67 million tonnes, said Unica.
The output has beat the market expectations as the survey conducted by financial information provider S&P Global Commodity Insights suggested cane crushing to be 23.9 million tonnes and sugar output at 1.47 million tonnes.
