A recent report from the United States Agriculture Department (USDA) shows that Brazil’s sugarcane harvest for 2024-25 is expected to drop by 8.5% compared to last season, reaching 645 million metric tons. This decline is mainly due to lower rainfall.
The USDA report indicates that Brazil’s total sugar production for the new season, starting in April, is predicted to be 44 million tons, down from 45.54 million tons in the previous season, which set a record.
Brazil is forecasted to export 34.5 million tons of sugar in 2024-25, down from 35.97 million tons in the previous year.
According to the USDA, Brazil’s sugarcane fields performed well from April 2023 to March 2024. However, this year’s harvest may not be as good due to insufficient rainfall affecting sugarcane growth.
