In the second half of November, sugar production in Brazil’s center-south increased by 35% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.4 million metric tonnes, according to data from Brazilian industry group UNICA released on Tuesday.
UNICA’s report indicated that 23.9 million tons of sugarcane were crushed during this period, marking a 46% increase from the previous year. The overall ethanol production also saw a significant rise, reaching 1.25 billion liters, a 39.9% increase.
Mills in the primary sugarcane region of Brazil are wrapping up their crushing activities for this season. According to UNICA, 78 units have completed processing so far, a decrease from 178 units at the same time last year, primarily due to adverse weather conditions affecting the crop.
