Three Indians were arrested in an operation launched by the Border Security Force (BSF) near the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills district, reports India Today.
The suspects were attempting to smuggle sugar into Bangladesh.
The incident happened on August 12, when troops from the 181 Battalion of BSF Meghalaya intercepted a suspicious vehicle during a routine check.
BSF troops had established a mobile check gate in the border area based on intelligence inputs. The vehicle was searched and found to have sugar concealed under the layer of sand.
The driver and two co-drivers failed to furnish valid documents for the sugar consignment.
BSF Meghalaya handed over the persons along with seized sugar to the Customs Office, Dalu, for further investigation and necessary action under the law.
