Shillong: Troops of BSF Meghalaya successfully stopped a smuggling attempt on January 6, 2025, seizing sugar and other items intended for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh.
Acting on specific intelligence, BSF Meghalaya launched special operations in the areas around Muktapur and Lynghat in West Jaintia Hills. During the operation, troops spotted unidentified individuals approaching the border to collect smuggled commodities. When challenged, the smugglers fled into the forest, taking advantage of the darkness.
The area was properly searched, and the hidden smuggled items were discovered and confiscated. The goods were then turned over to the appropriate Customs Office for further investigation and prosecution.
As per BSF Meghalaya, standing tall against all odds, vigilant troops thwarted a smuggling bid on 6th Jan, 2025, seizing contrabands worth more than Rs. 34 lakhs including sugar, garlic, blankets, liquor, cosmetic, medicines. BSF is Committed to safeguarding the border.
