After a gap of four years, the Chamundeshwari sugar factory commenced sugarcane crushing on Friday. The factory is located at Srinivasapura in Channarayapatna taluk.
The farmers and the Shravanabelagola MLA C.N.Balakrishna were present during the inauguration of the crushing season and they dumped the bundles of sugarcane at a crushing chain to start the operations.
The farmers from the district had earlier staged agitations for the revival of this closed factory.
Addressing the farmers on the occasion, Mr. Balakrishna said, “The sugarcane crushing had been stopped as the private operator wanted time to expand the capacity of the machinery. Due to demonetisation and COVID-19 pandemic, the relaunch of the factory was delayed. Meanwhile, a dust catcher also collapsed further delaying the expansion efforts.”
