China seizes 600 tonnes of smuggled sugar

Nanjing: The Customs department on December 11 seized a ship carrying around 600 tonnes of Thai sugar in the Yangtze River in the Nantong section. According to the preliminary investigation, the sugar had no import certification.

The Customs authorities from Nantong, east China’s Jiangsu Province have caught five people in the suspected sugar-smuggling case, said local authorities.

China has intensified its effort to crack down on sugar smuggling in the country. With the many cases have been detected recently, it seems sugar smuggling is on rise in the country. This is not the first time China has busted sugar smuggling. In the past too, many cases have been detected.
