In a move to revamp the regulatory framework of the sugar industry, the government released the draft Sugar (Control) Order 2024. According to an office memorandum issued on August 22, technological advancements in the production process have led to multiple changes in the sugar sector, necessitating a revamp of the existing Sugar (Control) Order, 1966. In this regard, a copy of the draft Sugar (Control) Order 2024 was issued.

Sugar (Control) Order looks after various aspects of the sugar industry, including regulation of production, sale, packaging and international trade of sugar, release quota for sale, movement and export/import of sugar.
