Chandigarh: Sugarcane farmers in the state have yet not received their cane bills and this has affected their financial condition, said Haryana Congress president Kumari Selja. She also demanded that the farmers should get their dues along with the interest on it.
Citing the example of Naraingarh sugar mill, Selja said that the mill has crushed cane worth Rs 105 crore for this season but has paid only cane bills of Rs 9.45 crore to the farmers. Jind’s sugar mill has paid only Rs 16.50 crore out of dues worth Rs 49.35 crore to the farmers.
“The situation at other sugar mills is similar and the government should take note of this. As per the rule, mills must clear cane dues within 14 days of crushing farmers’ cane but the mills are not following it,” she further added.
