BSP MP Kunwar Danish Ali urged Yogi government to ask sugar mills to clear pending cane dues. He said, “The coronavirus pandemic has already increased the financial burden of the sugarcane farmers and they are in dire need of their pending cane arrears. The government should take steps to ensure that the sugar mills clear the cane arrears of farmers on time.
Ali said, “Farmers are the worst affected due to the ongoing crisis. It is the responsibility of the government to address the issue of the farmers on the priority basis and ensure that their dues are paid on time.”
Government is closely monitoring the daily cane payments by sugar mills. Also, instructions have been issued to take action against sugar mills if they fail to clear cane dues. Sugarcane farmers claim they are reeling under financial burden due to a delay in cane payments.
The lockdown imposed by the government to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic has also affected many sugar mills across India. Mills were unable to sell the sugar amid lockdown, due to which sugar stocks piled up in godown. Lack of finance has also affected the mills to clear cane arrears.
