Margao: Shutting down the Sanjivani mill will affect the farmers adversely, said a Congress MLA in a letter to the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Co-operative minister Govind Gaude.
He said that he had raised the issue in the state assembly as nearly 4000 people are directly dependent on it. The promises made by the government during the last monsoon session that crushing will commence soon was not fulfilled.
The factory is facing financial trouble due to a lack of adequate supply of cane. The farmers and employees from the mill are against shutting it. The mill has registered a loss due to unavailability of sugarcane and various reason.
