Kolhapur: District collector Daulat Desai has issued instructions to give priority to the flood-affected sugarcane and to complete cane crushing in the first three weeks as soon as the sugar season commences. He issued the instructions in a meeting called at district collectorate which was attended by the representatives of sugar mills and the representatives of farmers.
Flood in Pune, Sangli, Satara, Solapur and Kolhapur districts, the sugar belt of Maharashtra, have majorly hit the sugarcane crops, which will ultimately be going to impact the sugarcane production in Maharashtra.
Sugar mills in the state had been officially permitted to commence cane crushing from November 22. In this season, sugarcane production is likely to decline, which will also impact the sugar production.
