Dhaka: The Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) has urged the government to sell the sugar produced by local sugar mills through the State-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The TCB sells the imported sugar in an open market which increases the pressure on the imported commodity. When the huge amount of sugar produced by the local industry is piling up in warehouses, it is not appropriate for the government to sell imported sugar through TCB, said the CAB leaders.
The government should sell the sugar produced in local mills which would help in clearing the stocks and the mills would get funds that will help them to reduce the burdens of sugarcane farmers who are waiting for their pending arrears, they said.
