Coronavirus live updates on 4th April: 30 per cent of total COVID-19 cases in country linked to Tablighi Jamaat event, says Health Ministry

The country is under a 21-day lockdown which has been imposed to check the spread of coronavirus which originated from China’s Wuhan. India is still witnessing a rise in COVID 19 cases. Central and state governments are working together to combat Coronavirus and to stop the spread of coronavirus.

17:03 IST: 30 per cent of total COVID-19 cases in country linked to Tablighi Jamaat event: Health Ministry
Out of the total cases of COVID-19 in the country, around 30 per cent are epidemiologically linked to Tablighi Jamaat cluster at Nizamuddin, the Centre said on Saturday.
Total positive cases of COVID-19 in India stands at 2,902 which includes 601 fresh patients. “Till now we have found cases related to Tablighi Jamaat from 17 States. A total of 1,023 COVID-19 positive cases have been found to be epidemiologically linked to this event. Out of the total cases in the country, around 30 per cent are linked to one particular place,” Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, told media here during the daily briefing.

16:51 IST:16 test positive for COVID-19 in Palwal
Sixteen people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the Palwal District, according to Dr. Brahmdeep Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Palwal.
“Sixteen people, out of 56, have tested positive for coronavirus in the district. All these people are linked to the Markaz Nizamuddin,” he said. Earlier, five village heads were suspended in Palwal District after they failed to notify the authorities about the presence of those who had returned after attending the Markaz Nizamuddin congregation in Delhi.
The gathering at Nizamuddin in the capital city has emerged as a hotspot for the novel coronavirus after several positive cases across India were linked to it, including deaths in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Telangana.

16:32 IST: With 601 new cases, India’s COVID-19 tally jumps to 2,902
Total positive cases of COVID-19 in India stands at 2,902 which includes 601 fresh patients, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Joint Secretary Lav Aggarwal on Saturday.
Aggarwal, who was briefing media persons, said: “601 new cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths have been reported since Friday, thus taking the total number of confirmed cases to 2,902 and the number of deaths to 68 in the country.” “As many as 183 people have recovered/discharged,” added Aggarwal.

16:02 IST: Nepal confirms 3 new COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 9
Three new people have tested positive for the coronavirus infection — COVID-19 — in Nepal, the Ministry of Health and Population confirmed on Saturday, taking the total tally of the virus-related infection to nine in the country. Among them is a 21-year-old male of Kailali, who returned from Mumbai in India, a 41-year-old male of Kanchanpur, who returned from Uttarakhand in India, while the third one a 34-year-old female from Kailali, known to be a relative of one of the earlier infected persons, reported The Himalayan Times. This is the first case of local transmission in the country.

15:33 IST: One more test positive for COVID-19 in Assam, state tally climbs to 25
One more COVID-19 positive case was reported from North Lakhimpur District, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 25, according to Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Health Minister. “One more #Covid_19 positive case from North Lakhimpur District has been confirmed, taking the total number in Assam to 25. This patient is also related to #NizamuddinMarkaz event in Delhi,” he tweeted. Earlier on Friday, four novel coronavirus positive cases were confirmed from Kamrup (Metropolitan), Kamrup and Marigaon. Three out of these four cases were of patients who are also related to Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz event.

14:40 IST: Rajasthan reports 2 more COVID-19 cases, count reaches 198
Two more COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in Jodhpur, taking the total number of cases to 198 in Rajasthan, including 41 Tablighi Jamaat attendees, informed the State Health Department on Saturday. Both of them were contacts of the woman who had earlier tested positive for coronavirus. Out of these 198 cases, two are Italian nationals.
The Tablighi Jamaat event at the Nizamuddin has emerged as a hotspot for COVID-19 after several positive cases from across India were linked to the gathering including deaths in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana.

14:33 IST: 6 more test positive for COVID-19 in Madhya Pradesh, count reaches 164
Six more COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in Bhopal, taking the total number of cases to 164 in Madhya Pradesh, informed the State Health Department on Saturday.
Meanwhile, three COVID-19 patients passed away in the state on Saturday, including a 36-year-old patient in Chhindwara, taking the total number of deaths in the state to 11. Two of these three COVID-19 patients died in Indore, taking the total number of deaths in the district to seven. One of the patients was an 80-year-old woman and another was a 42-year-old man.

14:06 IST: Maharashtra reports 47 new COVID-19 cases, tally 537
With 47 fresh cases of coronavirus being reported in the state, the total number of positive cases on Saturday rose to 537, according to Maharashtra Health Department.
Out of these 47 cases, 28 have been reported from Mumbai, 15 from Thane district, 2 in Pune and 1 each from Amravati, and Pimpri-Chinchwad. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday, Maharashtra was the worst-hit state by the COVID-19 infection.

With 355 new cases reported in the last 12 hours, India’s tally of coronavirus positive cases rose to 2,902, said the ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.
Out of 2,902 cases, 2,650 are active cases and 184 have been cured or discharged or have migrated. The total number of deaths reported due to the disease rose to 68 on Saturday.

13:18 IST: Andhra Pradesh records 16 new COVID-19 cases
Andhra Pradesh recorded 16 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, according to the Andhra Pradesh Health Department.
Krishna and Kadapa districts reported four new cases each, followed by Guntur and Kurnool with three each. With this, the total confirmed positive cases in the state now stand at 180.
Earlier, the test report of a 45-year-old man, who passed away here on April 2, confirmed that he was COVID-19 positive.

13:05 IST: Pakistan’s COVID-19 tally surpasses 2,700
The tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 2,708 on Saturday after new infections were confirmed in the country, health officials said.
The national dashboard, maintained by the federal ministry of health says that the death toll has increased to a total of 40 while 13 patients are in critical condition, ARY News reported. The latest statistics of the national dashboard say that 130 patients have recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic thus far.
Sindh has recorded the most number of deaths since the first case emerged, the current tally of those that succumbed to the virus from each province puts Sindh at the top of the list with 14 deaths, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa share 11 deaths each while Gilgit-Baltistan has recorded three deaths thus far.

12:44 IST:259 out of 386 coronavirus positive cases from Markaz Nizamuddin : Delhi Health Minister
Out of the total 386 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in national capital, 259 are from Markaz Nizamuddin, said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Saturday.
He informed that Delhi is facing a shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits and requires 50,000 kits on an urgent basis. “Till now, there are 386 Coronavirus positive patients including 259 from Markaz Nizamuddin. We have only 7000-8000 PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kits left in our stock which will last 2-3 days. We have demanded 50,000 PPE kits on an urgent basis,” Jain told media reporters here.
In the last two days, 600 people linked to Markaz Nizamuddin have been quarantined in Delhi and efforts are underway to trace all their contacts, he said.

11:40 IST: Agra reports 25 new coronavirus cases
Twenty-five new coronavirus positive cases were reported from Agra, taking the total tally to 45 in the district, informed Agra District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh on Saturday.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 positive cases spiked by 355 in the country in the last 12 hours. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday held a high-level meeting in Lucknow, to review preparedness and take stock of the situation in the wake of the situation arising out of coronavirus outbreak.

11:23 IST: India’s tally of positive COVID-19 cases rises to 2,902
With 355 new cases reported in the last 12 hours, India’s tally of coronavirus positive cases rose to 2,902, said the ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday. Out of 2,902 cases, 2,650 are active cases and 184 have been cured or discharged or have migrated. The total number of deaths reported due to the disease rose to 68 on Saturday.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra is the worst-hit state with 423 cases. Tamil Nadu is the next most affected state with 411 cases.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Delhi also rose to 386. The Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi has emerged as a hotspot for COVID-19 after several positive cases from across India were linked to the gathering including deaths in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana.
An FIR was earlier registered against Tablighi Jamaat head Maulana Saad and others under the Epidemic Disease Act 1897, in the national capital.

10:42 IST: One COVID-19 patient passes away in Karnataka’s Bagalkot
A COVID-19 positive patient passed away in Karnataka’s Bagalkot on Friday, taking the total number of deaths in the state to four, informed the Deputy Commissioner of Bagalkot.

10:40 IST: Amaravati man who died on April 2 tests positive for COVID-19: District Collector
The test report of a 45-year-old man, who passed away here on April 2, confirms that he was COVID-19 positive. Shelesh Nawal, Amravati District Collector, said: “The person who died on Thursday had coronavirus. In his report which came today he was detected positive for the lethal infection.” On Friday, two patients were discharged after they got cured for the novel coronavirus. One of the patients was 22-year-old male student from New Castle, UK who was admitted in Ongole government general hospital (GGH) on March 15. He was discharged after being tested negative thrice.

10:20 IST: People disobey social distancing norm at Mumbai’s Byculla Market
Despite repeated warnings by the authorities to maintain social distancing and to stay indoors during the 21-day national lockdown, Mumbaikars were seen buying fruits and vegetables at the Byculla Market while defying the government guidelines on Saturday.

09:58 IST: Odisha reports 20 coronavirus positive cases
With 15 new positive cases, the COVID-19 tally in Odisha on Saturday climbed to 20, said the State Health and Family Welfare Department. Out of the 15, seven persons were in close contact with the coronavirus patient from Suryanagar, which include his wife, daughter and tenants. Moreover, 3 persons from Bomikhal, 2 from Bhadrak, 1 each from Cuttak, Puri and Jaipur detected positive for the fatal virus, said the health department.
1395 people were tested for the coronavirus in the state till Friday.
