The Bhogpur Co-operative sugar mill is set to acquire about 70,000 MT of stubble this year as part of its ongoing crop residue management program. District Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal noted that the mill has installed an 80-tonne-per-hour boiler, along with a 15 MW co-generation plant, reported The Tribune.
In 2023-24, the mill successfully collected over 60,000 MT of paddy and produced 22,376.6 MW of electricity. This initiative not only helped tackle the stubble burning issue in the district but also supported sustainable energy production. Aggarwal mentioned that stubble was purchased from local farmers at Rs 1,750 per tonne, creating wealth from waste, increasing farmers’ incomes, and generating job opportunities in the area.
With operations restarting on September 16, 2024, the mill aims to procure around 70,000 MT of stubble for 2024-25. Aggarwal highlighted the mill’s vital role in managing crop residue and significantly reducing pollution from stubble burning. This initiative continues to provide benefits for both the environment and the local farming community.
The efforts of the Bhogpur sugar mill reflect a sustainable strategy for managing crop residue while addressing important environmental challenges in the region, he added.
Environmental Engineer Sandeep Kumar encouraged farmers interested in selling their stubble to contact the mill at 7888590170 or 9877556394.
