Cuba sets target of 1.2 MT sugar production

The beleaguered Cuban sugar industry set a target of 1.2 million metric tonnes of raw sugar production in the current sugar season. The target is equal to the same amount of sugar produced last year. The sugar harvesting season in the country began last week.

As of now, three sugar mills have commenced the operations. The sugar industry is affected due to lack of fuels, inputs such as fertilizers and herbicide, and financing to carry out technological repairs in sugar mills.

According to the media, in this season 38 mills may participate in sugar production.
