ChiniMandi, Thanjavur: Cyclone ‘Gaja’ hit the coast of Tamil Nadu last week leaving behind the line of destructed farming areas.
Acres of sugarcane crops were tilted flat by the heavy showers; this cane crop was kept to be plucked for 2019’s Pongal.
The main harvest of the season had got around four to five feet long are now ruined, although the small saplings of cane are saved.
The farmers in the area have come under a very difficult situation; the only possibility left is to try to restore the crop at some level.
As per one of the farmers in the region said that there will be nothing left for Pongal as the crop would have fetched them a good amount.
