Domestic Market

Weak sentiment witnessed in domestic sugar prices

Domestic sugar prices in the major markets were reported to be weak, with prices falling by Rs 5-20 per quintal across the major markets. Prices fell by Rs 5-10 per quintla in Karnataka, Maharashtra while fell by Rs 20 per quintla in Uttar Pradesh and other North Indian states. According to market participants, demand is need-based, despite lower quotas, which have kept prices in a range for the last 8-10 sessions.

The price of S-grade sugar in Kolhapur ranges from Rs 3,770 to Rs 3,820 per quintal, while M-grade sugar in Muzaffarnagar costs between Rs 3,990 and Rs 4,040.

International Market

At the time of writing this update London White Sugar #5 front month contract is trading at $537.00 ton, whereas the New York Sugar #11 front month contract is trading at 18.72c/lb. The corn futures market trades at 459-2 and the ethanol Chicago trades at 1.77500s

Currency, Commodity & Indian Indices

The rupee traded against the US dollar at 85.884 whereas USD was trading with BRL at 5.7771 Crude WTI traded at $60.25 barrel. Sensex closed 2,226.79 points down at 73,137.90 whereas Nifty closed 742.85 points lower at 22,161.60
