Domestic Market

Domestic sugar prices were reported stable

After trading higher for 2-3 sessions, prices for sugar in the major domestic markets were reported to be stable. Prices are at their lowest level in two months, which is supporting the prices over the last 3 to 4 sessions.

Meanwhile, NFCSF released sugar production data for the period until 15th April 2025. As per the update overall sugar production is at 25.4 MMT, lower by 18.4% y/y. Around 37 mills are operating when compared to 74 mills of the last season. In Maharashtra, 1 mill is operating and season is likely to conclude at 8.08 MMT. In Uttar Pradesh 22 mills are running and produced 9.1 MMT of sugar.

An acre of S-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,770 and Rs 3,820 in Kolhapur. An acre of M-grade sugar costs between Rs 4,010 and Rs 4,090 in Muzaffarnagar.

International Market

At the time of writing this update London White Sugar #5 front month contract is trading at $489.90 ton, whereas the New York Sugar #11 front month contract is trading at 17.60 c/lb. The corn futures market trades at 482-6 and the ethanol Chicago trades at 1.78750s

Currency, Commodity & Indian Indices

The rupee traded against the US dollar at 85.731 whereas USD was trading with BRL at 5.8701 Crude WTI traded at $61.89 barrel. Sensex closed 309.40 points up at 77,044.29 whereas Nifty closed 108.65 points higher at 23,437.20
