Domestic sugar prices continued to trade stable
Prices for sugar in the major domestic markets were reported to be stable for the fourth session. Prices are at their lowest level in two months, which is supporting the prices over the last 3 to 4 sessions. Demand is said to be good on increased temperatures or heat waves over North India.
India has produced approximately 254.97 lakh tonnes of sugar, with around 38 sugar mills still operational as of April 15, Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association said in a statement Thursday.
Around 35 lakh tons of sugar is expected to be diverted towards ethanol production this year, against last year’s estimated diversion of 21.5 lakh tonnes. Around 22 factories are still operational in Uttar Pradesh. Out of which around 16 factories are operating in West UP.
S-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,770 and Rs 3,820 per quintal in Kolhapur and M-grade sugar ranges between Rs 4,010 and Rs 4,090 in Muzaffarnagar.
