Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP has issued a new circular permitting electric, methanol, and ethanol-based autorickshaws to operate freely across the district without any restrictions.
The DC announced that the earlier circulars dated November 24, 2022, and the amendments made on January 23, 2023, have been revoked.
According to the Times of India, under the previous guidelines, electric, methanol, and ethanol autorickshaws were required to obtain zone-specific identification stickers and numbers from the police department. The new circular eliminates the need for these stickers and numbers for zone 1 and zone 2, allowing these autorickshaws to operate throughout all taluks in the district.
The DC has instructed the RTOs to strictly enforce the new regulations. Additionally, Mangaluru City and Dakshina Kannada police are to install signboards reflecting these changes. The DC has also directed the Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and officials from other local bodies to designate parking areas for autorickshaws in their jurisdictions.
