New Delhi: Sugarcane crushing season has commenced in the country. To assess the production of sugarcane and sugar in the current sugar season 2020-21, Secretary, DFPD convened a meeting of all the Secretaries and Cane Commissioners of all sugar-producing states.
In a meeting, it is estimated that 2910 lakh tonnes of cane will be crushed and 305 lakh tonne of sugar will be produced and sugar equivalent to 20 lakh tonne will be diverted towards ethanol. Approx Rs 93000 crore FRP will be paid to farmers.

As new season started but yet many sugar mills across the country have yet not cleared the cane dues. In the meeting, pending cane arrears and strategy for the early payment of the arrears were also discussed. Expected ethanol supply in 2020-21 will be 300 crore litre from the sugar sector.
