After the central government approved the subsidy of Rs 3,500 crore to export around 60 lakh tonne of sugar, the Dhampur Sugars has welcomed the move.
Speaking to a CNBC -TV18, Gaurav Goel, MD of the company said, “We welcome the government’s step to provide subsidy to export sugar. This was needed for an hour. India is going to produce 31-31.50 million tonne vis-à-vis on offtake of about 26 million tonne. So the export of 6 million tonne will help to reduce the sugar stocks in India.”
“What we are seeing generally is about one-fifth of what we produce will be for exports. We have sufficient stock to meet the export quota,” he further added.
