Assam: Dhubri police seize smuggled sugar sacks

Dhubri, Assam: In a significant crackdown on smuggling, Dhubri police seized multiple sacks of sugar on Sunday night under a bridge near Sadar Samshan, on the bank of the Gadadhar River adjacent to Dhubri town, reported India Today.

The seized sacks were allegedly being smuggled by a group of miscreants. Upon arrival at the scene, police officers found eleven sacks of sugar at the ghat, abandoned by the suspected smugglers who had fled.

These sacks were intended for transport downstream from the Gadadhar River in Folimari to their final destination. An official reported that a small motorized country boat managed to escape the ghat with some of the sugar sacks, leaving behind the eleven sacks.

Due to the lack of official documentation for the consignment, police confiscated the eleven sacks of sugar. The seized goods were taken to the Sadar police station and will soon be handed over to the customs department for further investigation.
