Amroha: Sugarcane farmers will get cane supply slips directly on their mobile phones via SMS from the next crushing season, reports Live Hindustan.
This initiative will save farmers from making multiple trips to sugarcane committees. The slips received online will be used for weighing their sugarcane, and e-calendars will be issued to the farmers.
Preparations for the ensuing crushing season have already begun in the sugarcane department and sugar mills. Sugar mills will start functioning by the last week of October. All necessary arrangements will be finalized beforehand by the sugarcane department. Display of the sugarcane schedules is going on across the district and e-calendars will be issued to farmers as usual. These supply slips are sent to farmers via text message, whereby they can obtain them at home without wasting their time going to the committees.
An entirely online system for issuing supply slips has been introduced and IT cells have been set up at all committees. This season, paper supply slips will not be issued to farmers, instead they will get their slips through SMS. This year, more than 100,000 hectares of area in the district are under sugarcane cultivation. More than 200,000 farmer members are registered with the sugarcane committees. All of them will receive their supply slips online.
District Cane Officer Manoj Kumar Singh stated, “The issuance of cane supply slips will be done entirely online this season as well. E-calendars will be issued to the farmers, and there will be no need for them to visit their cane society.”
