Dwarikesh Sugar will be cutting down sugar production by 30% and will focus on increasing ethanol production, said the Managing Director of the company Vijay Banka, reports CNCBCTV18
“We have reached a historical high of sugar production of about 45 lakh quintals and would be reducing it to about 32-33 lakh quintals in the forthcoming year,” he said.
The attractive pricing for ethanol in comparison to sugar has driven this shift towards ethanol production, he said.
The centre is planning to create a carry-over stock of ethanol for the next year expecting an increase in demand for E20 fuel. The government has set a target of achieving a 20% ethanol blending target by 2025.
