Strategic sugar stock reserve in Egypt can cover more than six months, said Aly-al Meselhy, the minister of supply and internal trade, reports Egypt Independent.
He said, “The domestic sugar production from beet and cane crops will help in meeting the need of people in long term. The sugar beet companies will continue to receive beet from farmers till the end of the season and the companies should ensure that they pay farmers in time.”
Consumers will get sugar either through local shops, on ration cards or in markets, the minister said.
The Delta sugar company, one of the major sugar producers in the country has stated that the farmers are providing beet and the company is increasing sugar production.
