Egypt’s strategic reserve of subsidized sugar is sufficient

Egypt’s strategic wheat reserve is adequate for 5.9 months, according to Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk, who spoke to Asharq Business at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce on Monday, reported Arham Online.

As per media report, Farouk also reported that Egypt’s strategic reserves are as follows: oils for 6.4 months, subsidized sugar for 16.3 months, fresh meat for 7.8 months, and frozen poultry for 10.4 months.

At the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, Egypt faced a sugar crisis, which was largely addressed through an agreement to import 250,000 tons of raw sugar and increase the availability of subsidized sugar in the market.
