Guwahati: India’s ethanol blending programme is the mandate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it will help in boosting the Indian economy, said Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Rameshwar Teli.
He said that years and years of research have gone into the technology of blending of ethanol with petrol and it is a proven technology.
“Compared to countries like Brazil and Indian states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, ethanol blending in the Assam is low. We are trying to achieve 10% blending at an initial level which will further increase to 20 per cent.” he further added.
The ethanol production will help in addressing the issue of hike in petrol prices. Assam had approved the ethanol production policy to increase biofuel production.
The central government with an aim to lower the expenditure on foreign exchange has set a target of blending 20 per cent ethanol with petrol by 2025. The roadmap for ethanol blending in India 2020-25 was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5 this year on the occasion of World Environment Day.
