Ethanol boost: Godrej Agrovet partners with Provivi to offer sustainable crop solutions for maize farmers

Provivi, a global leader in crop protection, and Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL), a diversified food and agribusiness conglomerate, have announced a strategic partnership to introduce sustainable pest control solutions for rice and maize farmers in India.

As part of the collaboration, GAVL will introduce eco-friendly pest management solutions to the Indian market. The company will distribute Provivi’s YSB Eco-Dispenser, designed to combat Yellow Stem Borer (YSB) in rice, and will hold exclusive commercialization rights for Provivi’s FAW Eco-Dispenser, aimed at controlling Fall Armyworm (FAW) in maize.

“These pheromone-based technologies offer Indian farmers advanced, environmentally responsible pest control solutions,” GAVL said in a press release.

Rice and maize are essential crops in India, contributing significantly to both national food security and the country’s economy. India is a leading player in the global rice market and a major producer of maize, which supports various sectors.

Maize is one of the major crops in India providing food, feed, and fodder for livestock, and serving as a source of raw materials for a variety of industrial products, including starch, corn oil, corn syrup, alcoholic beverages, cosmetics, biofuels, and more. Maize is also a key feedstock for ethanol production in India, and the industry expects its usage to increase to meet the growing demand for biofuels.

Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of GAVL, commented on the partnership, saying, “The increasing pest challenges due to changing climatic conditions make it essential to equip Indian farmers with sustainable, innovative technologies that boost productivity. Our collaboration with Provivi combines their expertise with our distribution network, ensuring we provide effective support to farmers at the right time.”

Rajavelu NK, CEO of GAVL’s Crop Protection Business, highlighted the ongoing threat of Yellow Stem Borer and Fall Armyworm to rice and maize crops, which drive up production costs for farmers. He said, “Yellow Stem Borer and Fall Armyworm continue to pose significant threats to rice and corn crops, driving up production costs for farmers. With the need for sustainable solutions in today’s changing agricultural landscape, we’re excited to partner with Provivi to empower farmers with innovative, eco-friendly tools to manage these two major pests. Our joint efforts in Integrated Pest Management aim to provide effective, environmentally conscious sustainable solutions to protect rice and corncultivation.”

Corey Huck, CEO of Provivi, added, “This partnership allows us to expand our reach in one of the world’s fastest-growing agricultural markets, and we’re excited to bring these eco-friendly solutions to Indian farmers.”

The YSB and FAW Eco-Dispensers from Provivi are made from biodegradable materials, ensuring durability and minimizing environmental impact. These products will be available to Indian farmers starting in 2029, according to the press release.
