For the first time in the history of the sugar industry in the state, ethanol has been considered for payment to farmers above the fair and remunerative price, said Sugar Minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa, reports The Hindu.
Apart from FRP, farmers will get Rs 50 per tonne taking additional total amount to Rs 204.47 crore.
“Farmers will get Rs 200 per tonne more than the previous season including a rise of Rs 150 per tonne announced by the Centre,” he said.
Sugar mills in the state produced 59.78 lakh tonnes of sugar by crushing 622.26 lakh tonnes of cane in the 2021-22 season and paid cane dues worth Rs 19,922 crore till October end, he said.
“We are expecting that 78 sugar mills will operate this season. Sixty-eight mills have already started operations and produced 38.77 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 119.46 lakh tonnes of cane,” he added.
