Charthawal: Sugarcane farmers are adopting new techniques of sugarcane cultivation that are resulting in increasing cane yield, reports Amarujala.
They are growing a new variety of cane crops using a bud chip system that helps them increase the crop yield.
These progressive farmers are registered members of the Uttar Pradesh sugarcane Research Institute’s Rohana Sugarcane Committee. They are producing cane seeds in their field and using different techniques to transplant them into their fields. They are using 14201, 15223, 13233 188, and 239 varieties of cane for cultivation.
Cultivating cane using modern technology helps in increasing cane output to 80-100 quintals and the use of water has been reduced by 75%, said farmers. The cost of pesticides has also been reduced by 50% if we cultivate cane using modern techniques, they said.
