Sangrur, Punjab: Sugarcane farmers protesting for pending cane dues worth Rs 17 crore have decided to intensify their stir in the next few days, reports Tribune India.
They have been protesting for the last 13 days.
“We will continue our protest till our dues are not released,” said Harjeet Singh Bugra, chairman of Sugarcane Growers’ Struggle Committee.
Of the total pending dues, Bhagwanpura Sugar Mill Ltd, Dhuri owes Rs 15 crore and the state government owes Rs 2 crore, said the protesters stating that they have submitted 45 memorandums to the concerned authorities so far.
We are taking steps to ensure that the private sugar mill releases the pending cane dues at the earliest, said Amit Gupta, Dhuri SDM.
