Farmers ask government to declare sugarcane SAP

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: More than two months have passed since the starting of the new sugarcane crushing season, the Uttar Pradesh government has yet not announced the State-Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane. According to the media report, it is making a difficult for cane growers to get payment.

The state government has not stated any particular reason for the delay in announcing SAP but media reports say that government could be waiting for the nation-wide agitation to be over. Farmers urged the government to declare the SAP as soon as possible.

The Centre has already announced the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane for 2020-21 season with a hike of Rs 10 to Rs 285 per quintal for a basic recovery of 10 per cent.

The mills have urged the government to not to hike SAP as they are facing challenges of low sugar recovery due to climatic conditions.

According to the news report published in Thehindubusinessline.com, Jitender Hudda, a farmer leader from western UP, said the farmers are expecting an increase in the SAP as it has not been increased for three seasons.
