Farmers asked to take precautions from diseases affecting sugarcane crops

Lakhimpur Khiri: A farmer’s seminar was organized in Kodari village by the sugar mill, the cane department, and the Cane Research Institute. In the seminar, farmers were given technical information on identifying and preventing diseases in sugarcane crops, reported Live Hindustan.

Additionally, the seminar aimed to emphasize sugarcane cultivation. Officials from the sugar mill, the cane development department, and scientists from the Cane Research Institute, Shahjahanpur, participated in the seminar.

Farmers were informed about planting advanced varieties using the trench method, and the sugar mill explained the schemes being run by the cane department. Dr Praveen Kumar Kapil, senior scientist and deputy director from the Shahjahanpur Research Institute, informed farmers and sugar mill staff about the control of pests such as the top borer and early shoot borer, as well as the identification and prevention of diseases like red rot and smut.

Agricultural scientist Dr RD Tiwari advised farmers and sugar mill staff not to plant prohibited or rejected varieties. He also guided crop maintenance, timely application of balanced fertilizers, irrigation, weeding, and protection against pests and diseases.
