Plilibhit, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers claimed that the stalled operations at the sugar mill have left sugarcane crops standing in the fields, impacting wheat sowing. They are compelled to sell sugarcane at lower prices to local crushers, reported Live Hindustan.
Despite the Poojan the Puranpur sugar mill on November 28, farmers claim that they are facing distress due to the non-functioning of the mill. The ongoing repair work at the mill has delayed the commencement of the crushing season. Farmers claim that they are currently selling sugarcane at prices ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 250 per quintal on local crushers.
As per media report, on December 2, the representatives of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Tikait Group staged a demonstration at the mill gate. Later they called off their protest after getting assurance that mill start operations from December 5.
