Farmers call off proposed mahapanchayat on September 5

Ambala: The Kisan Insaf Mahapanchayat, a farmers’ gathering that was supposed to be held on September 5 has been cancelled after the district administration accepted the demands of the farmer unions, reports Tribune India.

The farmers had demanded the cancellation of cases registered against farmers during the march and the pending payment of sugarcane from the Naraingarh sugar mills. They had also demanded a government job for Ravinder Singh, a 29-year-old farmer from Sarsini village in Mohali, Punjab, who lost his leg during a protest march to Chandigarh on August 22.

The district administration has agreed to all of the farmers’ demands. A special case has been sent to the government for Ravinder Singh’s job, and the cases registered against the farmers have been cancelled. The pending payment of sugarcane from the Naraingarh sugar mills will also be released soon.

The farmers have welcomed the decision of the district administration and have thanked them for their cooperation. They have also withdrawn their call for the Kisan Insaf Mahapanchayat.
