Mawana, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Kisan Sabha have demanded a hike in cane price to Rs 580 per quintal, reports Live Hindustan.
A delegation of farmers has submitted a memorandum of their demands addressed to the chief minister of the SDM Akhilesh Yadav.
The farmers have stated that there are around 55 lakh sugarcane farmers that are dependent on cane cultivation. Along with them, crores of laborers are dependent on cane cultivation. The input costs for cane cultivation have been increased manifold since 2018 but the government has not hiked the cane price. The government has begun the cane survey and exhibition but has not taken steps to resolve the pending issues of cane farmers. The farmers have demanded the government resolve their issues on a priority basis, they said.
