Farmers demand pending cane dues of Rs 28 crore

Amritsar: Sugarcane farmers under the Sugarcane Producers’ Sangharsh Committee have demanded the Cooperative Sugar Mill, Anjala to clear the cane dues worth Rs 28.70 crore, reports Tribune India.

A delegation of the farmers met the general manager of the sugar mill and stated that the farmers are reeling under financial stress due to the delay in cane payment.

Delay in cane payment is diverting farmers from cane cultivation, they said.

The sugar mill should give preference to the local cane producers and start procurement of cane earlier so that there won’t be any delay in the harvesting, said a cane farmer from the region.
