Thanjavur: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) associated with Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam and the Tamil Nadu Sugarcane Farmers Association protested outside the Thanjavur collectorate demanding the government to take over the private sugar mill at Thirumandankudi in Thanjavur district, reports The Hindu.
Farmers raised slogans demanding payment of pending cane dues and waiver of the bank loans taken by the mill management on the names of the sugarcane farmers.
The leaders demanded the governments take over the operations of the sugar mill from private hands and save the lives of farmers that are reeling under loans borrowed by the mill on their names.
