Farmers demonstrate for the announcement of SAP for sugarcane

Mysuru: Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) demonstrated in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Thursday, demanding the announcement of a State Advisory Price for sugarcane, reports The Hindu.

Led by its president Badagalapura Nagendra, KRRS protesters wanted the government to announce SAP for sugarcane. They also want crop insurance for all agricultural produce and not only to notify crops, revise insurance policy to assess crop damage at the village level and not over a larger geographical area.

Farmers had decried the financial institutions, including banks, that offset crop insurance compensations and compensations against their arrears, demanding a review where crop insurance should stand separate from loan repayments.
