Ambala: Sugarcane farmers associated with the Naraingarh sugar mill are relieved as they have received cane dues worth Rs 27.59 crore pending for the last crushing season.
The mill took action after the farmers had threatened to launch an agitation on January 3 if the mill fails to clear their cane dues by December 31.
According to the news report published in Tribuneindia.com, Niraj, Chief Executive Officer of the sugar mill and the Sub-divisional Magistrate of Naraingarh said, “We had assured sugarcane farmers that we would clear their pending cane dues amounting to Rs 27.59 crore by December 31 and we cleared it by December 30. From Friday, we have started clearing cane bills of the farmers of the ongoing season. Besides, the mill has cleared post-dated cheques for Rs 12.60 crore as well. We are taking all the possible steps to clear the cane bills of the farmers.”
Rajiv Sharma, spokesman, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni), said, “We are happy that the sugarcane farmers have received the pending cane dues.”
