Phagwara, Punjab: The sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Union Doaba have begun indefinite dharna outside the Sugar Mill Phagwara on Sunday demanding the pending cane arrears of around Rs 73 crore.
Addressing the agitators, farmers leaders said that the sugar mill has not cleared their dues for the last crushing season.
They said that the farmers are facing economic hardship due non-payment of their cane dues and have warned to continue their agitation till they get their dues. They also threatened that they would not allow the sugar mill to run if their dues are not cleared.
The administration assured them that they will look into the matter and ensure cane payment.
