Muzaffarnagar: Farmers associated with the Bhartiya Kisan Union have launched an protest at the office of the District Sugarcane Officer in Muzaffarnagar for pending cane dues, reported IANS.
Rakesh Tikait, the spokesperson for the BKU, issued a warning, stating that unless the outstanding dues are cleared, no sugarcane will be supplied to the sugar mills during this season. He highlighted that despite the onset of a new sugarcane season, sugar mills have failed to make payments to farmers for their sugarcane.
The BKU spokesperson underscored that any mill not making timely payments to farmers will not receive their sugarcane. In such cases, the district administration will coordinate the supply of sugarcane to other mills. He also noted that the government has been discussing the cost of production but has not yet announced sugarcane prices.
