Jalandhar: The farmers are trying their best to convince the sugarcane harvesters to stay here for the paddy season instead of going to their state. The labourers had come for cane harvesting and got due to lockdown even after cane crushing season was finished. They are planning to leave now as the government has started Shramik trains to assist labourers to travel to their home from the workplace. However, some farmers have convinced them to stay here and earn during paddy season instead of going their home.
“I have convinced 15 labourers working in my farm to stay here and earn during paddy season instead of going their home. They had tried to register for Shramik train but now they have decided to stay here and earn during paddy season,” said a farmer based in the region.
Another farmer said, “I am ready to pay advance to the farmers so that they stay here during paddy season but I am doubtful that they may leave for their home.”
