Farmers stage demonstration demanding higher FRP for sugarcane

Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers launched a protest on Thursday by blocking Mysuru-Ooty Road demanding higher Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane, reports The Hindu.

The farmers have demanded the government hike FRP to Rs 3,500 per tonne from the existing FRP of Rs 3,050 per tonne fixed by the Centre.
Farmers led by Karnataka Sugarcane Cultivators Association participated in the agitation.

Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the association said, “The government is making false promises to the farmers but not serious about delivering them.”

The government’s inaction is affecting more than 30 lakh farmers in the state, he said.
