Madurai, Tamil Nadu: Sugarcane farmers staged sit-in agitation at district collectorate for their demand of pending cane arrears from Vasudevanallur-based sugar mill.
P. Ayyakannu, president of Farmers’ Association for National-South Indian Rivers Linking, who led protest told media during the agitation that those who came to power praising farmers as the backbone of the Indian economy are doing nothing for the betterment of farmers after coming to power. For the last two years, a private sugar mill based in Vasudevanallur has not paid farmers’ cane arrears but the government is not taking any action against the mill.”
