Narakatiaganj, Bihar: Sugarcane farmers in Champaran are worried as their crops might get affected due to red rot pest disease. This season, just like the previous year, sugarcane crops are falling prey to a disease referred to as “sugarcane cancer.” It has affected the entire crop, causing the plants to wither. Agricultural experts attribute the disease to the combination of red rot and wilt, reported Live Hindustan.
This year, the disease has emerged nearly three months later than the previous year. It is particularly prevalent in the regions of Gaunaha, Mainatad, Narakatiaganj, and the surrounding areas. Farmers in Shrirampur, Gaunaha, Santosh Kumar, Babulal Chauhan, Kundan Sah, and others, all report that their sugarcane crops have been severely impacted by red rot disease.
Last year, the disease had affected approximately 5900 acres in Narakatiaganj and the neighboring areas. However, this year, it has affected approximately 1200 acres so far.
