Amroha, Uttar Pradesh: The cultivation of sugarcane is currently witnessing an outbreak of the red rot disease, reported Live Hindustan.
The leaves of the sugarcane plants are turning yellow and drying up, while the interior of the sugarcane is displaying a reddish hue due to the infection. This has caused significant concern among farmers, as failure to address the issue promptly could lead to a decline in production.
According to Dr. Rajendra Pal Singh, the District Agriculture Protection Officer, the red rot disease is making its presence felt in the sugarcane crop across the district. This disease is characterized by the appearance of red spots on the leaves of affected plants. These leaves ultimately turn yellow and wither. To control the disease, it is advised to uproot and bury the affected plants in deep pits. Applying bleaching powder in the areas where the plants were uprooted is also necessary.
