Fearing government action, sugar mills clear more than 100 crores cane dues in two days

Muzaffarnagar: Sugarcane arrears has remained the major issue in Uttar Pradesh, therefore state government is taking all steps to ensure speedy cane payment. Following which, the administration has given strict instructions to sugar mills to clear cane dues. 

Sugarcane farmers are angry over non-payment of cane dues, due to which the government along with the sugar mills are under pressure.

To put pressure on the mills, the district magistrate has issued a strict warning to the sugar mills in Muzaffarnagar to clear dues. 

 According to the reports, fearing government action, the mills from district cleared Rs 137 crore of cane dues in two days. Of the mills, Khatauli paid Rs 49.34 crore, Mansurpor 16.17 crore, Khaikhedi 19.70 crore, Morna 3.98 crore, Titawi 15 crore, Rohana 3 crore and Tikaula paid Rs 19 crore. Bhaisana could pay only Rs 85 lakh. 

Sugarcane farmers claim due to non-payment of cane dues, they are facing financial difficulty. Whereas sugar mills say due to surplus sugar and the depressed prices they are suffering from financial scarcity, which led to the default in cane payment.
